MID-LEVEL CIVIL LITIGATION LAWYER, 3-5 YEARS

About the Opportunity

We are looking for an associate with 3-5 years’ experience to assist the partners on litigation matters. This will include a wide variety of matters, including corporate/commercial disputes, injunctions, and arbitrations. Work will range from relatively straightforward loan matters to complex, multi-party matters. Many files, though not all, will be in the construction industry. Prior experience in construction litigation is an asset but is not a requirement. You will need to do research and drafting, but you will also take carriage of files with our guidance and mentorship. You will be an important part of our team.

Your work will include:
– meeting with clients
– preparing correspondence
– drafting pleadings
– preparing for and attending mediations, cross-examinations, and discoveries
–preparing for and attending motions, pre-trials, and trials in Superior Court

You will have:
– demonstrated experience in litigation
– excellent analytical, writing, oral communication, research, and interpersonal skills
– the ability to work independently
– good time management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines

LITIGATION LAW CLERK

Rousseau Mazzuca LLP is a fast-growing law firm in downtown Toronto. Our practice includes civil litigation, construction, employment, and corporate law.

About the Opportunity

We are looking for a Law Clerk to support the firm’s lawyers on civil litigation matters, construction law and/or labour law. You will report to the Office Manager and will work in a team with other Law Clerks and Legal Administrative Assistants.

Key duties include:

  • Managing a busy litigation practice, including scheduling examinations and motions and arranging for service and filing of court and tribunal documents

  • Preparing briefs, affidavits of documents, pleadings, and other court and tribunal forms

  • Drafting, proofreading, and editing correspondence

  • Conducting simple legal research

  • Support for both civil litigation, labour, and construction lien matters

  • Opening and closing files and other administrative work as requested

  • Managing confidential and sensitive information

  • Dealing with clients in a professional and courteous manner

  • Docketing billable hours daily

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience as a litigation law clerk

  • Knowledge of court forms, court processes and procedures, and the Rules of Civil Procedure

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills and an excellent team player

  • Attention to detail

  • Ability to work independently

  • Proficiency with standard MS applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Construction lien experience is an asset, but not required

  • Labour law experience is an asset, but not required

  • Teraview experience is an asset, but not required
